چکیده

We performed an exploratory study on new joystick-based directing interfaces for a collocated robot. We present a new framing for joystick control, based on either a humancentric, robot-centric, or human-robot-centric control mapping, and further explore the user experience impacts of having a physical cable between the user and the robot. We performed a formal qualitative study and discovered that the existence of the cable can influence user perception of animacy and safety. Author

Is Augmented Reality the Future Middleware for Improving Human Robot Interactions: A Case Study

With robots appearing frequently within our society, the cases will be higher where people with little or no practical experience in robotics would have to supervise robots. Future interfaces should make Human Robot Interactions (HRI) intuitive for such less-experienced users. A key requirement to have an intuitive interface is to improve the level of HRI performance. In this study we try to im...

Human Pointing Navigation Interface for Mobile Robot with Spherical Vision System

Human-robot interaction requires intuitive interface that is not possible using devices, such as, the joystick or teaching pendant, which also require some trainings. Instruction by gesture is one example of an intuitive interfaces requiring no training, and pointing is one of the simplest gestures. We propose simple pointing recognition for a mobile robot having an upwarddirected camera system...

EMG-based Robot Control Interfaces: Past, Present and Future

Despite the fact, robots came to light approximately 50 years ago, the way humans control them is still an important issue. In particular, since the use of robots is increasingly widening to everyday life tasks (e.g. service robots, robots for clinical applications), the human-robot interface plays a role of the utmost significance. A large number of interfaces have been proposed in previous wo...

Comparison of Wheelchair User Interfaces for the Paralysed: Head-Joystick vs. Verbal Path Selection from an offered Route-Set

Within this work we compare two human-robot interfaces that enable handicapped people who may not move their arms and legs to steer an automated wheelchair. As a technically more ambitious solution we first propose a simple speech recognition system that enables the paralysed to select a path from a set of spatially meaningful solutions, that is subsequently executed by a geometric path planner...

Human Computer Interaction Using Vision-Based Hand Gesture Recognition

With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...
